On April 17, 2025, the team members of the Improve River LIFE project from the Institute for Environment and Nature attended an intense theoretical and practical underwater and aerial drone control training. The education was led by the experts from the Dive It, who presented a detailed introduction to the technique, capabilities and safe use of both types of drones.
The underwater drone training included the basics of preparing a drone for operation, controlling it underwater and properly storing the equipment after use. Each participant had the opportunity to personally operate the drone and apply the knowledge acquired in the practical part.
Following this, the aerial drone training was conducted. Through a similar principle of theoretical and practical parts, the course participants were introduced to the correct procedures before, during and after a drone flight. The emphasis was on the safety, accuracy and proper maintenance of the equipment.
Ultimately, the course participants were taught how to install a robotic arm on an underwater drone as the key component for more advanced underwater tasks. Through this useful module, we have learned how to properly position and secure the robotic arm, which further expands the functionality of the underwater drone.
The objective of this activity was:
🔹Strengthening technical capacities for monitoring the status of river ecosystems using contemporary technologies.
🔹Underwater and aerial drones facilitate data collection in hard-to-reach locations and contribute to a better understanding and protection of river habitats.
