As part of the Improve River LIFE project, which is focused on the conservation and restoration of river ecosystems, the Project Partners held a meeting at which variant solutions for improving the habitat conditions of the rare, protected species softmouth trout (Salmo obtusirostris) and other plant and animal species living in the Jadro and Vrljika Rivers were presented.
The design engineer presented his proposals for the technical solutions. They include the removal or adaptation of existing artificial barriers on the watercourses aimed at improving the river habitat connectivity and enabling free water flow, sediment transport and organism migration. Such measures directly contribute to the restoration of natural river dynamics as a key step in the protection and conservation of the native species.
The meeting brought together experts from various fields (biology, ecology and water resource management) from the Faculty of Science, Hrvatske vode, the Public Institution “Sea and Karst” and Institute for Environment and Nature Protection.
